Water, Sanitation & Hygiene (WASH) Programme
Access to water is one of the major challenges in Somalia. Majority of the residents do not have safe water and often die from water-related diseases, the majority of whom are children. Water is not only a vital part of daily basic needs, but also a major aspect of their livelihood in agriculture, livestock, and other sectors. This situation provides the framework for which development and humanitarian assistance programs are established, which try to cover water-related needs, placing importance on durability and protection of the environment, and giving priority to meeting the needs of the most vulnerable in the population.
WAPCCO will endeavour to provide reliable water projects to communities in Somalia who suffer a chronic lack of access to clean water and proper sanitation. WAPCCO will develop local initiatives to ensure communities access safe drinking water and promote good hygiene.
